General
Matthews' photo ceramic plaques are made by using digital transfer technology
to fuse a halftone image of a photograph onto a ceramic tile. The ceramic
tiles are then protected by a clear glaze fired in a kiln so that the
graphic elements are completely protected from the environment.
Materials
Ceramic
Heat and corrosion resistant tiles, manufactured by kiln-firing clay at
high temperatures.
These
tiles are currently available in standard sizes only, shaped in ovals,
circles, squares or rectangles.
Thickness
- Miniature
portraits approximately 1/16"
- Standard
ovals approximately 1/8"
- Squares
& rectangles approximately 1/4"
Graphics
General
The images are reproduced from photographs which are digitally scanned
and transferred by fusing a halftone image onto the ceramic tile.
Currently,
digital files are not accepted to process photo ceramic products.
Copy
Personalized messages may be applied to photo ceramic products by adding
inscription to the photograph after the image has been scanned.
Retouching
& Alterations
Photographs can be enhanced or improved through digital retouching after
the photo has been scanned. For example, background scenes may be deleted,
clothing styles may be altered, images from different photos may be superimposed
onto one image, and virtually any image can be modified.
